| We read the first of these examples (which are explained herein), in the 2nd Book of Samuel, Chapter 10:18. Therein the author says that David slew the men of 700 merkavot (chariots) of the Syrians and 40,000 horsemen and Shobach the commander. "And Aram fled before Israel; and David slew seven hundred drivers of chariots, and forty thousand horsemen from Aram, and smote Shobakh the captain of their army, so that he died there." Yet 1 Chronicles 19:18 relays that same event, saying that David slew the men of 7000 merkavot and 40,000 footsoldiers! "And Aram fled before Israel; and David slew the men of seven thousand chariots, and forty thousand footmen from Aram, and killed Shophach the captain of the host." Which one was it: 700 or 7,000? Only one of these verses (at the most) can be correct. |

| Many Christians will disregard any suggestion that the Bible has been corrupted right off the bat by saying that "God has protected the Bible from corruption." This is a strange claim and reflects only their wishful thinking. Nowhere in the Bible is such a promise made. In fact Deuteronomy 4:2 as well as the Book of Revelation threatens a curse against those who would add to or subtract from it's words: "You shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall you diminish from it, that you may keep the Mitzvot (Commandments) of YHWH Elohekem (the LORD your God) which I command you." If such a thing was not possible, then why would it be prohibited? God does not prohibit us from things that are impossible. God does not say, "You may not turn yourself into rabbits and spend the whole day hopping around rather than working and praying!" God does not say "You shall not grow wings and fly into the sun." These are ridiculous things and we would find any scripture with such prohibitions ridiculous. So why would God tell us that we shall not add to the word commanded, nor diminish from it unless such additions and subtractions were possible? "I -*test*-('")ify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book, if anyone adds to them, may God add to him the plagues which are written in this book. If anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, may God take away his part from the Tree of Life, and out of the holy city, which are written in this book." Revelation 22:18-19 marturw egw panti tw akouonti touV logouV thV profhteiaV tou bibliou toutou: ean tiV epiqh ep auta, epiqhsei o qeoV ep auton taV plhgaV taV gegrammenaV en tw bibliw toutw: kai ean tiV afelh apo twn logwn tou bibliou thV profhteiaV tauthV, afelei o qeoV to meroV autou apo tou xulou thV zwhV kai ek thV polewV thV agiaV, twn gegrammenwn en tw bibliw toutw. God did not corrupt the passages of the Bible, rather this was mankind, Satan and his imposter prophets and messiahs who corrupted them. It is THEY who are trying to deceive, and Allah PERMITS somethings to go unpunished FOR A TIME, as a -*test*-('") to the ability of the faithful to REASON. The Bible says in Isaiah 1:18: "Come now, and let us reason together, says YHWH; though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool." What is this washing of sins associated with? With REASON, with the reasoning together that YHWH has commanded of us. For God has allowed such -*test*-('")s to come to us. God has created both good and evil according to Isaiah. God created those things which are easy and those things which are a -*test*-('") for us. "I form the light, and create darkness; I make peace, and create evil; I am YHWH, that does all these things." The Qur'an speaks of this corruption of the Bible in saying: "Of the Jews there are those who displace words from their (right) places, and say: 'We hear and we disobey;' and 'Hear what is not Heard;' and 'Ra'ina;' with a twist of their tongues and a slander to Faith. If only they had said: 'We hear and we obey;' and 'Do hear;' and 'Do look at us;' it would have been better for them, and more proper; but Allah has cursed them for their Unbelief; and but few of them will believe." Al-Qur'an 4:46 مِّنَ الَّذِينَ هَادُواْ يُحَرِّفُونَ الْكَلِمَ عَن مَّوَاضِعِهِ وَيَقُولُونَ سَمِعْنَا وَعَصَيْنَا وَاسْمَعْ غَيْرَ مُسْمَعٍ وَرَاعِنَا لَيًّا بِأَلْسِنَتِهِمْ وَطَعْنًا فِي الدِّينِ وَلَوْ أَنَّهُمْ قَالُواْ سَمِعْنَا وَأَطَعْنَا وَاسْمَعْ وَانظُرْنَا لَكَانَ خَيْرًا لَّهُمْ وَأَقْوَمَ وَلَكِن لَّعَنَهُمُ اللّهُ بِكُفْرِهِمْ فَلاَ يُؤْمِنُونَ إِلاَّ قَلِيلاً "Woe, then, to those who write the book with their hands and then say: 'This is from Allah,' to traffic with it for miserable price; therefore woe to them for what their hands have written and woe to them for what they earn." Al-Qur'an, Sura 2:79 فَوَيْلٌ لِّلَّذِينَ يَكْتُبُونَ الْكِتَابَ بِأَيْدِيهِمْ ثُمَّ يَقُولُونَ هَـذَا مِنْ عِندِ اللّهِ لِيَشْتَرُواْ بِهِ ثَمَناً قَلِيلاً فَوَيْلٌ لَّهُم مِّمَّا كَتَبَتْ أَيْدِيهِمْ وَوَيْلٌ لَّهُمْ مِّمَّا يَكْسِبُونَ "Most surely there is a party amongst those who distort the Book with their tongue that you may consider it to be (a part) of the Book, and they say, It is from Allah, while it is not from Allah, and they tell a lie against Allah whilst they know." There has come to you our Messenger, revealing to you much that you used to hide in the Book, and passing over much (that is now unnecessary): There has come to you from Allah a light and a perspicuous Book." Still Christians may persist in disbelieving any corruption has infected their Scriptures. They should turn to the Prophet Jeremiah who said: "Even the stork in the sky knows her appointed seasons, and the dove, the swift and the thrush observe the time of their migration. But my people do not know the requirements of YHWH. How can you say, 'We are wise, for we have the Torah of YHWH,' when actually the lying pen of the Scribes has handled it falsely? The wise will be put to shame; they will be dismayed and trapped. Since they have rejected the Word of YHWH, what kind of Wisdom do they have?" Regarding the Islamic perception of the corruption of the Bible, the Prophet Jeremiah said it all. Nevertheless, this text at hand exists to point out some of these corruptions. There are more that have not been mentioned herein. However, their lack of mention does not indicate their lack of existence. "We certainly gave the Book to Moses, but differences arose therein: had it not been that a word had gone forth before from your Lord, the matter would have been decided between them, but they are in suspicious doubt concerning it."
